Category: Accessible Games
Hi - 7-128 Software is developing an accessible travelogue game called "Visit Salem". It will walk you through the major sights of Salem, also known as Witch City. It will feature shops, restaurants and museums and other attractions. There will be a scavenger hunt included. What I would like is some information about what blind and VI gamers would want in such a game.
First, what type of accessibility information would you like included for shops, museums, restaurants exhibits and the like?
Second, what kind of descriptions of the locations would be most interesting and fun for you?
Third, having lots of ambient sounds in our games was mentioned by our blind testers for our Game Book. What types of ambient sounds would you like to have included in Visit Salem?
We are trying to make this game for people who might or might not get to Salem but would like to explore it. The scavenger hunt items will be in pictures and in the descriptions of the locations. There will be interviews with the more colorful people in town. It will include information that a person visiting the city might want to know.

i love playing games, and if worked right could be very good.
i've never been to sailum, but if i was playing this is what i'd have:
you are standing on sailum high street. to the left you can see a train station and to the right is the pet shop. ahead of you is a hospital with a huge sign over the entrance, or something like that. then for descriptions of the buildings, let's say you enter through the hospital
you enter a large winding corridor. all around people are rushing too and from there destinations carying medicines, forms and other important equipment. from a distance, you can make out a brilliantly furnished reception and sometimes you see a visitor at the desk asking the staff for asistance. there are doors all around you, and just ahead of you you can see a set of elevator doors open and shut, sometimes revealing such items as cleaning trolleys or beds to be transported to the wards.
as for sounds, i'd really like it realistic, for example if you enter a building there could be a general sound of a crowd moving around and talking, you know like you get on busy places. also when you go in things like shops and museums, you could have a cash register, indicating to the user that someone has just payed for an item, or entry in to somewhere.
you can also have sounds of cars, and the wind whistling through the air in the busy parts of the city
I'd be more interested in visiting, say, Ireland, England, Australia, Scotland or New Zealand, but that's just me.
lol, you don't have to visit sailum, it's just a game designed for people that might.
you never know, a world wide game might happen in the future
